A lot of people ask us if flat feet are acceptable in Pakistan Army or not (and in other armed forces like Navy and Airforce).

The answer is slightly complex and that’s why people get confused. In this post we’re going to try to explain the issue of flat foot in detail.

Are Flat feet acceptable in Pakistan Army, Navy and Airforce?

Answer is yes and also no. There are types of flat feet. One type is fit in medical for armed forces, while the other one is unfit.

Flexible flat foot is acceptable, while absolute flat foot is unfit during medical for Pakistan Army, Navy and airforce.

However there is more detail to this topic and things like calcaneal rotation, calcaneal pitch angle etc. are also viewed for fitness during the medical examination.

What is flexible flat foot?

Flexible flat foot is when your feet are flat looking when you’re standing, however they do get an arch when you stand on the toes.

flexible flat foot pakistan army navy airforce

Please note that the opinion of the medical officer examining you at the Army Selection & Recruitment Center might be different from your opinion, as he or she is an expert in this. However in certain cases where there is any doubt and confusion, the doctor at AS&RC might refer you to the surgeon or orthopaedics surgeon for expert opinion too, with or without x-ray.

X-Ray for Flat Feet

X-ray done for checking flat feet are called calcaneal pitch angle. This angle is done during medical fitness examination to confirm if the original shape of bones and arch inside is also flat or not. Sometimes the soft tissue of the foot makes it look like flat, but it’s not flat from inside.

Refer for Flat Foot

If your medical officer feels like, they can refer you to a general surgeon or an orthopaedics surgeon for flat feet and also for calcaneal rotation to get medical fitness.

Calcaneal rotation

Calcaneal rotation is when your foot is turned slightly to one side when seen from behind, instead of being straight. This can also be fit or unfit based on level of deformity and opinion of the medical officer examining you.

calcaneal rotation

In summary, do get yourself examined by a surgeon in CMH or a medical officer in AS&RC if you think you’re flat foot. Because in many cases you are not unfit and can get fit during the medical examination process of Pakistan Army, Navy and Airforce.

Please let me know if you have any query or ambiguity.

Captain is the third commissioned officer rank in Pakistan Army (after 2nd lieutenant and lieutenant).

How to become a Captain in Pakistan Army?

There are various ways to become an officer with Captain in Pak Army. Such as:

  • Join Pakistan Army via long course, pass out as 2nd lieutenant and then lieutenant and then captain in fighting arm
  • Join Pakistan Army directly as a captain if you join as a doctor after doing mbbs from civil, or join as software engineer after doing BSCE (or equivalant) from civil setups, etc. This applies on many arms and departments, check for the openings for the year you’re applying in

Which BPS scale is Captain Rank in Pak Army?

Captain rank is equivalent to BPS-17 scale.

2nd lieutenant & lieutenant are also bps-17 scale ranks. However they are on the lower pay scale side while captain is on higher side (slight difference though, not much).

Pay of a captain in Pakistan Army

Pay of a captain is based on bps-17 scale pay structure. It is nearly 70,000 pkr in the start.

Also it may vary based on the corps / arm (or department) one is serving in. For example SSG captains receive almost 9,000 pkr extra. Similarly doctors receive nearly 4,000 pkr extra every month as NPA (non-practicing allowance).

What are the duties of a Captain in Pak Army?

Duties of a captain vary based on the corps / arm / department they are in too.

In fighting arms, they are platoon commanders under the major who is the company commander.

Captains usually also do the duties of adjudant (but mostly done by lieutenants), quarter master (again mostly done by lieutenants if they are available), project officer, etc. too.

In arms like Army medical crops, Engineers, etc. the captain mainly does the duties of their profession.

How many years an officer remains a Captain

This is variable based on the arm and department too.

E.g., mostly in fighting arms the duration of Captain rank is 5 years. For doctors of Army Medical Corps, the duration is 6 years, etc.

What is meant by Honorary Captain

This term usually applies to those people who joined army as soldier, however by the end of service they kept being promoted to the highest regular rank a soldier can achieve (subedar major) and then get promoted to an honorary rank of captain for few months at the end of their service. This is meant to give them honor for being an amazing soldier throughout, however they are practically not deployed or utilized as regular captains of Pakistan Army (hence the term honorary captains).

Honorary rank of Captain in SSG officers

SSG officers, upon passing out, get the rank of captain even if they are lieutenants at that time. This is just a honorary rank till they achieve the rank of captain themselves. However in army documents they are still lieutenants and all their pay and courses etc some based on their original rank. They just wear the rank of captain as an honor for passing out the commando course.

Please read wrong myths about SSG and clarify your doubts about SSG before applying to join special service group Pakistan.

What does SSG stands for

SSG stands for Special Services Group.

How to Join SSG Commandos

Anyone from any armed forces of Pakistan (Pak Army, Pak Navy, Pak AirForce) can join SSG commandos. Foreigners from selected countries can also apply for SSG via proper channel.

To join SSG commandos, the soldiers (and officers) serving in the military forces need to apply through proper channel for the upcoming commando course.

Eligibility Criteria for SSG commandos

SSG commandos Pakistan’s requirements and eligibility criteria includes:

  • Active soldiers (and officers) of armed forces of Pakistan (and selected foreign countries)
  • Service less than 5 years
  • Passing physical test for screening

(Being updated)

Pakistan SSG Commandos

SSG vs SEAL

Pakistan Navy has started the SEALs program which includes SSG training along with sea based training leg too.

Initially SSG centre trained the SEALs for the SSG part and they went to Navy for the sea warfare leg. However now the complete training is being conducted by Pakistan Navy themselves.

How to apply for SSG commandos

You can apply by either sending the volunteer application forms via your unit, through proper channel. Or else you can apply directly at the Cheerat, SSG training centre, however this isn’t always a viable or successful option.

SSG Commando Requirements

The requirements of SSG commandos change sometimes depending upon the situation. Average requirements that are implemented almost all of the time are:

  • Military person only, anyone from Army, Navy or Airforce can apply for SSG
  • Passing the screening test for SSG

Civilians can not directly apply for SSG. Military people can get more information about ssg commando requirements from their units or from any SSG unit or SSG headquarters.

Pakistan SSG Commandos Monthly Salary

The pay of ssg commandos is slightly higher than the same rank and service counter parts in other arms. This is because they get extra allowance due to qualification of SSG course and others.

Soldiers vs Officers training in SSG

SSG training for officers is longer than that of soldiers and includes extra things which soldiers aren’t trained for in the initial training. SSG commando training of officers is of around 9 months, while the training of SSG commando soldiers is of around 6 months.

SSG training

We won’t be sharing about the SSG training as it’s classified and includes everything that’s needed to make someone a guerrilla fighter (yes it’s not gorilla).

We’ll discuss the physical requirements for ISSB for military services of Pakistan and how to attain them.

Physical Test Requirements for Pakistan Army, Navy & AirForce

Physical test’s requirements for officers induction in all three forces of Pakistan, Pak Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Airforce are almost similar. They are:

  • Running: 1.6 km (1 mile) in 7 minutes and 30 seconds
  • Pushups: 15 in 2 minutes
  • Pull ups (chin ups): 3 in 2 minutes
  • Sit ups (abdominals): 15 in 2 minutes

Changes in Physical test requirements

There can be a change in the physical test’s requirements for all forces, based on various factors including age and gender. For every age group, there is a relaxation in the physical standards as the age goes up. Same is for females, the requirements are relaxed in case of females.

However do confirm from the specific force, course and age group you’re applying in for the physical standards, to prevent and issues at the time of selection during issb physical test. Also, it’s better to attain the above mentioned physical standard in any age group to keep you’re in good shape and progress, as these are the eligibility criteria, and you’ll be improving them during training too. So if you’re already better than the requirement, that will help you during the training for sure.

Physical test for Doctors induction issb

No physical test is done in Pak Army for doctors induction in any age group (for both GDMO and Specialists).

However, it’s done in Pak Navy and Pak Airforce.

Weight is checked on the basis of your BMI (body mass index).

Calculate your BMI using online BMI charts easily. You need to know your height and weight to calculate your BMI.

Scientifically, normal BMI ranges between 18.5 and 24.9.

The doctor at the selection centre can give leverage of few kgs. So if you’re overweight (which you shouldn’t be) or muscular (which you should be!) then you can talk to the doctor there.

Height Required for selection in Pakistan Army, Navy & Airforce

Usual minimum height required for selection in Pakistan military as an officer is:

  • Male: 5 feet 4 inches
  • Female: 5 feet 2 inches

The height can be lenient and relaxed in various cases up to 2 inches, including your birth place (or domicile) and the course / service you’re applying for. So check the exact height requirements for that induction opening to confirm.
